The mineralogy and textures of a kimberlite are often affected by hybrid mineralization produced by the chemical reaction between kimberlite magma and entrained crustal xenoliths. Thus, it is necessary to understand the relationship between country rock xenoliths and host kimberlite magma, in order to constrain accurate and reliable geological models. The project will examine reactions between granite and gneiss xenoliths and the Renard kimberlite (Canada) and between evaporite and limestone xenoliths and the Udachnaya kimberlite (Russia).

The project investigates petrography, mineral chemistry, thermobarometry and modal mineralogy of peridite xenoliths in the Chidliak kimberlite province, South Baffin Island. A special focus of the project is on trace element concentrations of secondary garnet and clinopyroxene.

Chidliak kimberlites (South Baffin Island) entrain fresh eclogite xenoliths . The project explores petrology, mineralogy and geochemistry of these rocks and finds the depth position of eclogites in the peridotitic lithological column of the Chidliak mantle.
